Intensive English study in 1:1 settings, groups, or companies can lead to improvement quickly. Participants see rises in their TOEIC scores, gains in their abilities to use English at work (e.g., in emails, meetings, negotiations, presentations, or marketing campaigns), and immediate boosts in their confidence to use English.
For business courses, students experience MBA-like conditions with back-and-forth discussions of key business theories. Famous case studies are brought in for deeper analysis. To spark even more debate, we often incorporate video exercises from the Harvard Business Review, Stanford Graduate School of Business, INSEAD, and other famous institutions. All of this -- believe it or not! -- is done in English. Step-by-step, even the shyest or least confident of participants begin to enjoy the process and to express their opinions. The benefits continue for years after a course is done. Our law courses are centered upon the Socratic Method as is utilized in most American law schools. The instructor engages in a Q-and-A, back-and-forth type of dialogue with the student(s), challenging the opinions put forth. Sessions become very entertaining and productive times during which the learner is exposed to a wide variety of legal concepts and legal English. We specialize in preparing people for the LSAT and law school (JD or LLM tracks) as well. In addition, Lagniappe is the only Test of Legal English Skills (TOLES) Centre in Japan. TOLES is a test of legal language and practical legal skills (e.g., the drafting of a letter on behalf of a client or the analysis of risks in a contract) produced by the International Division of The Law Society of England and Wales, and is recognized by the European Court of Justice.
